Mother’s Day Sucks!

Flowers with sign that says un-happy mother's day.

I said it. Mother’s Day is dumb.

Do I hate mothers? No!! I love them. I think the holiday is dumb because it makes SO many people feel bad. So, to all of you who feel awful or overwhelmed by this holiday— know that you are not alone.

Here’s what I have done to make the day more enjoyable.

1. Take it easy— no big plans for me.

2. Get outdoors! May is bursting with life.

3. Do something nice for other people (moms and non-moms).

Normally, I set up a table on my street and give away jars of flowers for free. This idea came to me from a wonderful woman I knew long ago, Karen, who was not a mom, but was an inspiration to me. She would put flowers out every weekend for passers by.

So, whatever you decide to do this weekend— go easy on yourself.

After all this time working with families, I know that everyone is struggling with something. Be aware of boundaries and know that while important, they can have a way of preventing AND causing harm.

Be kind.

Love big.

You are good.

Sending love to all of you!! 😍💗

Thank you for reading this.

Virtual hugs to you,

Amity
